Our
remit here was to create a master bedroom with maximum storage in
less than 10ft, whilst still creating a functional and comfortable
permanent sleeping area. (The boatman's cabin and the lounge can
also accomodate overnight guests). The space under the double bed
is maximised for storage, with 4 drawers set in to the front of
the bed, whilst the back (towards the port side) has 'drop-in' boxes
for longer term storage. Forward of the bed is a full height, 4ft
deep illuminated wardrobe for hanging space and shoe storage. To
the aft of the bed is a similar area, but in this case the wardrobe
is half-depth. The bottom of the other half (towards the port side
of the boat) is occupied by the calorifier, and we incorporated
an airing cupboard in the top. Additional storage for books and
other small items is provided by the overhead lockers at the head
of the bed, and individual reading lights are mounted on the wall
below. Additional ventilation and 'star-gazing' is facilitated by
the Houdini hatch in the roof above the centre of the bed. |
